New Year Newsletter 2016

Happy 2016 everyone !  Thank you to those of you who have sent good wishes.

I hope you have had an enjoyable break and that your bees, if you are caring for them, are coping with the very un-bee-friendly weather we are experiencing.

The colonies here continue to thrive and bees are out in between rain showers and storms.  The flowers are flowering in the mild weather so the bees are making the most of the blossoms which are available.  They were on raspberry flowers in November and now it is the turn of the Viburnum tinus !

Our courses for the new year are  listed on the website www.westfield-farm.co.uk/events so do get in touch if you, or anyone you know, is interested.  Lots of enquiries already so let me know if you would like a booking form – we do need minimum numbers to make these sessions viable.

Our regular monthly Saturday morning bee meetings will start on 5th March and there is lots of news.  I attended the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s AGM in November and was hugely impressed with the work they are doing – one of the best AGMs I have attended !

The big event in April will be the Bees in Trees week-end.  Those of you who came to the Convention in the summer will know that we are going to be hearing about the progress  made by Matt and John with the log hives and we plan to hoist one into an oak tree here.

Hope to see you soon.
